The Defense Department has lost at least $31 billion to waste and fraud, and the true figure could be closer to $60 billion during the wartime operations of the past eight years because of the sheer size and urgency of the operations and the shortage of workers to oversee those contracts. The result is wasted money and poor oversight of companies in the war zone, according to a new audit.
